Ever tried those interior storm panels? I’ve seen a few clients go that route when they wanted to keep the original windows but needed a little more insulation. They’re not super cheap, but you can take them out in the summer and they don’t mess with the look from outside. Curious—did you run into any issues with condensation or drafts after restoring yours? Sometimes I wonder if it’s just my old house being stubborn or if there’s a trick I’m missing...

I went the storm panel route last winter—mostly because my wallet wasn’t ready for full window replacements. They helped with drafts, but I did get some condensation on really cold days. I think it’s just the old house “charm” at this point... or maybe my caulking skills aren’t as pro as I thought.

Storm panels are a solid move when you’re not ready to drop serious cash on new windows. Condensation’s kind of the classic old house struggle, though—sometimes it feels like no amount of caulk or weatherstripping can totally win that battle. I’ve had similar issues, and honestly, sometimes it’s just the way these houses breathe (or don’t). If it makes you feel any better, my “pro” caulking job last year looked like a toddler with a tube of toothpaste... but hey, fewer drafts, right?

Honestly, nobody’s first caulking job looks pretty—mine sure didn’t. As long as it keeps the drafts out, that’s a win in my book. Old houses just have their quirks, and sometimes you’ve gotta pick your battles. Storm panels are a smart stopgap till you’re ready for the big upgrade.

I hear you on the caulking—my first attempt looked like a toddler with a tube of toothpaste, but hey, no more icy drafts in the living room. I’ve been weighing storm panels vs. just biting the bullet and getting new windows, but the price tags are wild. Has anyone actually noticed a big difference in their heating bill after upgrading? I keep wondering if it’s worth the upfront cost or if I’m better off just patching things up for now.
