Some of those “sleek” designs have weird crevices that collect grime.

Right? I swear some faucet designers must have a vendetta against people with sponges. I went for a “minimalist” look once and ended up with a science experiment growing around the base. Also, I hear you on matte black—mine looked amazing for about five minutes, then it was fingerprint city. If anyone invents a self-cleaning finish, I’m all in, even if it looks like a spaceship.

Matte black is the ultimate “Instagram vs. reality” finish, isn’t it? I had a client who was obsessed with that look until her kids got their sticky hands all over it—she called me a week later asking if there was some secret anti-fingerprint spray I’d forgotten to mention. And those crevices... don’t even get me started. I swear, some of these “seamless” designs are just dirt traps in disguise.

I’m curious, has anyone actually found a finish that holds up to real life? I’ve seen brushed nickel do a bit better, but then you get water spots instead. At this point, I almost miss the old-school chrome—at least you know what you’re dealing with. Anyone tried those “spot resistant” finishes? I’m skeptical, but maybe I’m just jaded after too many cleaning battles.

Matte black looked so cool in the showroom, but after a week in my house it was like a crime scene of fingerprints and mystery smudges. I tried “spot resistant” stainless on my bathroom faucet—honestly, it’s not magic, but it’s way less stressful than black. Still gotta wipe it down sometimes, but at least I don’t feel like I’m losing a battle every day.

Funny, I actually went the opposite direction in my own place—tried brushed brass after years of stainless. Honestly, I was bracing for the worst with fingerprints and water spots, but it’s been surprisingly forgiving. Maybe it’s the warmer tone or just luck, but I barely notice smudges unless the sun hits it just right. Matte black looks so good in photos, but yeah... real life is a whole different story. Sometimes you just have to experiment a bit before finding what works in your space.

Brushed brass is a wild card, right? I remember thinking it’d be a total fingerprint magnet, but it’s actually way more chill than I expected. Stainless always felt like I was cleaning it every other day. Matte black looks killer until you realize every water spot is basically a spotlight for your bad cleaning habits... Been there. Sometimes the “trendy” finishes just aren’t practical for real life, especially if you’ve got kids or, in my case, a partner who never wipes their hands.
