weirdly fascinating things I learned while shopping for bathroom fixtures
So, I was browsing around online trying to pick out new bathroom fixtures (faucets, showerheads, all that jazz), and stumbled across this random fact: apparently, faucets labeled "WaterSense" can save the average family like 700 gallons of water per year. Um, that's a lot more than I expected from just swapping out a faucet. Makes me wonder what other random plumbing trivia is floating around out there... anyone got more weird or surprising plumbing facts?

The 700-gallon figure caught my eye too. Is that estimate for replacing one faucet, or for switching several fixtures to WaterSense models? Those sound like very different kinds of savings - and it’d be interesting to know what the estimate actually assumes.
The 700-gallon estimate seems to depend on more than whether you replace one faucet or several. Does it assume a particular household size or how often the faucets are used each day? That’d make it easier to tell whether the figure applies to a typical home.
A showerhead’s flow rate is another useful fixture detail: for the same shower length, a lower-flow model uses less water overall, including less hot water that needs heating. So the potential savings aren’t just on the water bill; there can be an energy saving too.
