What changes when another fixture draws water during a shower?

If a toilet refills or a sink runs while someone’s showering, how differently do thermostatic and pressure-balancing valves handle the change? I understand they regulate temperature in different ways, but I’m not sure how much that difference matters with an older or variable plumbing setup.
For a replacement, what compatibility details should be confirmed before choosing a valve, and how important is access to the valve for future service? I’d also like to hear how people weigh more precise temperature control against simpler controls and potentially different repair needs.

The control style is only part of the compatibility check. On an older setup, confirm that the replacement valve body fits the existing rough-in and that its ports match the supply lines and shower-outlet arrangement. A valve can offer the temperature control you want and still require plumbing changes if those don’t line up.
