"inspectors have memories like elephants"

Haha, true. Had something similar happen—ended up chatting with the inspector informally, explained the delays calmly, and he softened up a bit. Sometimes just being genuine helps smooth things over...worth a shot anyway.

Had a similar experience myself a couple years back—permit expired right in the middle of installing solar panels. Inspector showed up, clipboard in hand, and I thought I was toast. But after walking him through the project, explaining the supply chain hiccups and how we were trying to do things right (even showed him some eco-friendly materials we were testing), he eased up noticeably. Sometimes just being upfront and transparent can really shift the tone...sounds like you handled it well.

- Glad it worked out for you, but honestly, inspectors can be hit or miss.
- Had a similar issue with my deck project—tried transparency, got slapped with a fine anyway.
- Guess it really depends on who shows up that day...

Inspectors really are a roll of the dice, aren't they? Had one guy who barely glanced at my wiring and another who practically brought a magnifying glass to check paint thickness... go figure. Did you try appealing the fine or was it just easier to pay and move on? Sometimes I wonder if bringing donuts would help or just make things worse, lol.

Had a similar experience with my first reno—inspector barely glanced at my plumbing but spent ages measuring stair riser heights. Go figure. Wonder if there's a specific area inspectors tend to nitpick more often than others?
