finding decent hardware for cabinets is driving me nuts

I've been trying to pick out some new knobs and handles for my kitchen cabinets, and honestly, I'm about ready to just give up and duct tape them shut, lol. Every store I go to seems to have either super cheap plastic-y stuff that looks like it'll break in a week or these insanely overpriced designer pieces that cost more than my actual cabinets did. There's like no middle ground.

And don't even get me started on finishes. Brushed nickel, satin nickel, polished chrome, antique brass...I mean, how many slightly different shades of silver and gold does the world really need? I swear I stood in the aisle for 20 minutes yesterday just staring at two knobs that looked exactly the same but had different names and prices. It's ridiculous.

I dunno, maybe it's just me being overly picky or something. But it feels like it shouldn't be this complicated just to find decent quality hardware that's affordable and doesn't look like it belongs in my grandma's house. Anyone else feel this frustration or am I just losing it here?
