What would you do if your kid wandered into a half-demo’d kitchen?

I get what you mean about pressure gates not working on old, uneven walls, but I’ve actually had better luck with the ones that screw in.

I’ve had one pop loose after a toddler body-slam.
Same here—my kid’s basically a linebacker. The hardware-mounted ones are a pain to install, but at least they stay put. Planters sound creative, though.

I’ve wrestled with those hardware-mounted gates too—definitely not my favorite DIY project, but I agree, they’re the only thing that stands up to a determined toddler. I once tried using a big planter as a barrier, thinking it’d be heavy enough, but my daughter just climbed right over it and got dirt everywhere. Have you ever tried rearranging furniture as a blockade? Sometimes I wonder if it’s safer or just more chaotic...

Tried that once—ended up with the couch wedged sideways and my kid still found a gap to squeeze through. Honestly, furniture blockades just create tripping hazards for adults. Hardware gates might be annoying to install, but nothing else really works long-term.
