I've been using pet-safe ice melt for a couple winters now, and residue hasn't been a huge issue for me. The key is sweeping or vacuuming regularly—especially near entryways. I also keep a spray bottle with a mild vinegar-water mix handy; quick spritz and wipe-down every few days keeps floors looking good. Double doormats definitely help, but honestly, nothing beats just kicking off boots right at the door... saves a lot of hassle later.
