"Honestly, even if you sealed things up tight, I'd still peek in there again. Critters are sneaky."

Couldn't agree more on this point. I've tackled a few cases of squirrel invasions myself, and sealing entry points is just the first step—these little guys always seem to find another way in sooner or later. One tip from experience: consider installing metal mesh screens over vents or other potential entryways. It's a simple step but makes a significant difference.

Regarding your HVAC reaching 20 years, I'd say you're fortunate but also probably diligent with maintenance. Regular filter replacements, annual inspections, and keeping an eye on critter activity around your unit truly extend its lifespan. Still, at two decades old, I'd suggest budgeting for replacement soon... it's usually cheaper and less stressful to plan ahead rather than waiting for it to fail mid-season.

And yeah, about wiring—critters chewing through cables isn't uncommon. Definitely worth a quick check periodically to avoid bigger headaches down the road.

Definitely true—my HVAC is pushing 18 years now, and I credit regular upkeep for that. But speaking of critters, has anyone tried ultrasonic repellents? I've heard mixed reviews... some swear by them, others say they're useless. Wondering if they're worth a shot or just another gimmick.

I've wondered about ultrasonic repellents too... tried one in my attic last year. Honestly, didn't notice much difference, but maybe it depends on the critter? Still, can't hurt to give it a shot—beats dealing with chewed wires later on.

Yeah, ultrasonic repellents can be hit or miss. Tried one myself a couple years back when squirrels decided my attic was their new vacation home. Didn't seem to faze them much—ended up having to seal entry points and trim back branches instead. Honestly, prevention's usually the best route. Chewed wires are no joke, especially in older homes like mine where wiring's already a bit sketchy... better safe than sorry.

Ultrasonic repellents definitely have mixed results. Had a similar issue with mice in a renovation project last year—didn't notice much difference either. Physical barriers and sealing gaps usually work better long-term, especially if wiring's older or vulnerable... safer bet overall.
