Totally agree—those little fixes really do matter. I used to think skipping a drafty corner here or there wouldn’t hurt, but it always comes back to bite you. Keeping up with the boring stuff is what keeps things running. You’re definitely not just lucky.

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve found a tiny draft or weird rattle and thought, “Eh, it’ll wait.” Every single time it’s ended up being something bigger down the line. You’re right—staying on top of that stuff isn’t glamorous, but it’s what keeps things humming along. Sounds like you’ve earned those 20 years, not just lucked into them.

I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, sometimes those little things are just quirks and don’t turn into anything major. I’ve ignored a few rattles for years and nothing ever came of it. Not saying ignore everything, but not every noise spells disaster.

I hear you on the quirks. Had a furnace in one of my flips that made this weird humming noise for years—figured it was just old age. Never got worse, never failed, just kept humming along. On the other hand, I once ignored a tiny drip under a water heater and ended up replacing half the subfloor. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don’t. Guess it’s all about picking your battles and knowing when to roll the dice.

Funny how some stuff just keeps on trucking, right? I’ve had a furnace that sounded like a freight train but never missed a beat. But then there’s the sneaky leaks or minor electrical gremlins that end up costing a fortune. Makes me wonder—do you ever just ignore the weird noises and hope for the best, or do you dig in every time? I always second-guess myself… is it wisdom or just luck when things last this long?
