I get where you’re coming from about old-school deadbolts, but I gotta say, smart locks have actually saved me a couple times. Like, I’m notorious for leaving my keys in the weirdest places—once found them in the fridge (don’t ask). If it wasn’t for being able to unlock my door with my phone, I’d have been out of luck. Sure, tech can glitch, and yeah, old doors are their own beast with swelling and sticking, but at least with some smart locks you can still use a regular key as backup.

Honestly, I’m more worried about losing keys than an app not working. Plus, if you’re on a budget and juggling rentals or roommates, changing codes is way cheaper than rekeying everything. Not saying they’re perfect—batteries dying at the worst possible time is a thing—but for me, convenience wins out most days. Just gotta keep that old spare key somewhere only you’d think to look...

Had a smart lock battery die on me mid-winter once—stood outside shivering, cursing my “upgrade.” Ended up climbing through a window I’d just finished weatherproofing. Not my proudest eco moment, but hey, at least I didn’t break the glass...

- That’s exactly why I’m still on the fence about smart locks.
- Batteries dying at the worst time just seems like a hassle, especially when it’s freezing out.
- Traditional keys might be “old school,” but at least they don’t run out of juice.
- Have you looked into backup key options or external battery packs? Wondering if that’s worth the extra cost...

Yeah, I get where you’re coming from. The idea of standing outside in the cold because the battery died is honestly what’s kept me from pulling the trigger too. I’ve seen some models with a hidden key slot or a way to jumpstart with a 9V battery, but it feels like extra stuff to worry about. Still, I guess every lock has its downside—keys get lost, batteries die... just gotta pick your hassle, I guess.

- I hear you on the battery anxiety. Honestly, I’m more likely to lose my actual keys than remember to swap out batteries, but both have burned me before.
- The hidden key slot thing sounds clever... till you realize you’ve left the backup key in the house (ask me how I know).
- 9V jumpstart? Cool in theory, but who actually has a spare 9V in their pocket?
- At least with a regular lock, you can always call a locksmith. With smart locks, if there’s a glitch or dead battery *and* no physical key, you’re just standing there looking foolish.
- Guess it comes down to which hassle annoys you less—fumbling for keys or praying your batteries hold out another week.
