thinking about flooring options and kinda stuck

We're finally getting around to redoing the floors in our living room and hallway, and I'm having a hard time deciding between laminate and hardwood. I mean, hardwood looks amazing and feels solid, but it's pretty pricey and I've heard it can scratch up easily - especially with kids and pets running around. Laminate seems way more affordable and durable, but I'm worried it'll look kinda fake or cheap, you know?

I've seen some laminate floors that look pretty convincing, but I'm still not totally sold. Anyone here have experience with either type in a busy household? Is the hardwood worth the extra money and maintenance, or does laminate hold up better than I think? Just looking for some real-life experiences before I make a decision I'll regret later, haha.
