Foundation quotes may be pricing different problems

How do you compare a foundation quote focused on drainage with one proposing piers or other structural support? They’re not equivalent scopes, and correcting water management shouldn’t automatically be treated as a fix for structural movement.

I’d want each contractor to point to the inspection findings behind the recommendation and explain what the work is meant to address. Do the quotes include excavation, drainage components, permits, and follow-up monitoring, or are some of those separate? What site conditions could change the price? If the recommendations differ, what evidence would help clarify whether water management, structural support, or both are warranted?

For the price comparison, check the quantities and limits in each scope: how much drain is included, where it discharges, and how many piers are proposed and to what depth. A lower quote may simply cover less work. It’s only a like-for-like price comparison once the specified work and intended outcome line up.
