Totally agree on breaking it up—trying to tackle the whole house at once is just asking for burnout. I’d add that even just focusing on the attic and basement/crawlspace first can make a big difference, since that’s where a lot of heat escapes.

“But just sealing up the obvious leaks and adding some foam here and there? That’s a weekend job, tops.”

Yeah, spot on. I’d say if you’re doing batt insulation in an attic, plan for a full day if you’ve never done it before. Spray foam in gaps and weatherstripping? Half a day, maybe less. The only thing that ever slows me down is moving all the junk out of the way first...

I thought I could just “quickly” insulate the crawlspace last weekend—ended up spending half the day just figuring out how to wedge myself between old paint cans and a mountain of mystery boxes. Didn’t even get to the actual insulation until after lunch. Maybe I’m just slow, but it’s never as fast as I expect... anyone else find themselves distracted by weird stuff they find tucked away?
