neighbors installed sound-blocking insulation—does it really work?

I get the appeal of insulation, and yeah, it can help a lot—but honestly, if you're dealing with serious bass, insulation alone might not cut it. I've seen clients spend big bucks on soundproofing insulation only to find out the bass still sneaks through. Bass frequencies travel through structures themselves (floors, ceilings, studs), so sometimes decoupling the wall or adding resilient channels is the only real fix. It's a hassle, but worth considering before you drop cash on insulation alone.

Yeah, insulation is definitely helpful, but like you said, bass is a tricky beast. I remember flipping a house a couple years back—beautiful old place, but the neighbors had this home theater setup that shook the walls every movie night. We tried insulation first, thinking it'd be enough, but nope... bass still rumbled right through. Ended up having to go back and install resilient channels and double drywall with Green Glue in between. Honestly, it was more work and money than we planned for, but the difference was night and day. So yeah, insulation alone can help with normal noise—voices, TV chatter—but if you're dealing with heavy bass or subwoofers next door, you might need to take it a step further.

Yeah, bass is a whole different animal. I've had similar headaches with rental properties—insulation helps with regular noise, but once someone brings in serious subwoofers, it's game over. Had one tenant who DJ'd at home (yep, lucky me), and regular insulation barely made a dent. Ended up doing the same resilient channel and double drywall setup. Costly? For sure. But worth it for peace of mind and fewer complaints down the road...

Curious if anyone's tried greener options like recycled denim insulation or cork panels for bass-heavy noise? Regular insulation doesn't cut it, but wondering if eco-friendly materials handle low frequencies better...

Funny you mention denim insulation—I actually used it on a recent flip, mostly because I wanted an eco-friendly selling point. Honestly, it did seem to help with regular noise, but bass... not so much. Cork panels sound intriguing though. Wonder if anyone's compared cork directly with mass-loaded vinyl or something heavier for bass frequencies? I'd love to find a greener alternative that genuinely tackles those stubborn low-end sounds.
