I get it—some of these “smart” appliances just overcomplicate things. I’ve stuck with basic smart plugs too, mainly for scheduling lights and the coffee maker. I’m curious, though: has anyone found a kitchen gadget that actually improves on the classic version, aside from maybe smart ovens? I keep looking at those WiFi-connected sous vide sticks, but I wonder if they’re actually more reliable or just another thing to troubleshoot.
Honestly, I’ve wondered the same thing about those WiFi sous vide sticks. I tried one at a friend’s place—he swears by it—but I just didn’t see the point of connecting it to my phone. The old-school immersion circulator does the job, and I don’t really need to start my steak bath from the grocery store, you know? Maybe if you’re super into meal timing or batch cooking, it makes sense, but for me it felt like more steps for something that should be simple.
The only “smart” kitchen thing I’ve actually kept is a Bluetooth thermometer for grilling. That’s been handy, since I can check temps without hovering over the grill. But even then, sometimes the app glitches and I end up just using a regular probe anyway. I guess I’m just not convinced most of these upgrades are worth the hassle unless you really love tinkering.
