“my first time opening up a wall, I was half-expecting treasure and got a pile of crumbly insulation and what I think was a petrified squirrel.”
That’s honestly the most accurate description of demo work I’ve seen. The “good old days” definitely left us with more surprises than treasures—once found an old lunchbox full of bottle caps and a weird note that said “Don’t trust the plumber.” Had to laugh at that one. Ever wonder if people left this stuff on purpose just to mess with us decades later? The mystery is half the fun, even when it’s mostly dust bunnies and questionable smells.
I’ve always wondered if people actually meant to leave those weird notes or if it was just random stuff that fell through the cracks. Found a single shoe in my attic once—no explanation, just one shoe. Makes you question what stories these houses could tell if they could talk... or maybe we’re better off not knowing.
