Kitchen Redesign Adventure: Worth the Hype or Not?
Couldn’t agree more with this:
Deep drawers look sleek in the showroom, but in real life? I feel like I’m always digging for that one spatula. I’ve started using more shallow drawers for utensils and gadgets, and honestly, it’s just less stressful. Deep drawers are perfect for pots or bulkier stuff, but for anything small, they’re just a black hole.“no matter how many organizers I try, something always escapes.”
I get where you’re coming from, but I’ve actually had the opposite experience with deep drawers - at least when they’re set up right. I use adjustable dividers and trays, and it’s made a huge difference. Instead of stacking, I lay utensils flat, which keeps things visible. Sure, if you just toss stuff in, it’s chaos, but with a bit of planning, deep drawers can be surprisingly efficient. Maybe it’s just a matter of finding the right system for your stuff?
Deep drawers can be a bit of a gamble, honestly. I’ve seen them work wonders in some kitchens - especially when folks actually use those dividers and organizers you mentioned. In a couple of my rentals, tenants either loved them or just let them turn into a black hole for random gadgets. I guess it really does come down to how you set them up and what you’re storing. When they’re dialed in, though, they’re super handy.
Deep drawers are one of those things I thought would be a game-changer when we redid our kitchen, but honestly? Mixed bag. In my old house, they just ended up full of random baking pans and stuff I forgot I even owned. Now, with some organizers, they’re actually useful - pots and lids finally have a home. Still, if you’re not careful, they turn into a junk pit fast. Guess it’s all about staying on top of the clutter... which is easier said than done around here.
Funny, I see this all the time - deep drawers seem like a no-brainer, but they really do need a plan. I usually suggest folks map out what’s actually going in each drawer before the remodel even starts. Did you end up measuring your pans and pots ahead of time, or just wing it? Sometimes that makes all the difference...
