- Gotta admit, I’m not totally sold on painting the cabinet interiors.
- Did the doors and drawer fronts only last year—saved a ton of time and paint. Honestly, I barely notice the insides unless I’m deep cleaning or reorganizing.
- Maybe it’s just me, but I’d rather put that effort (and cash) into better hardware or a new backsplash.
- Corners are a pain, yeah, but if you’re careful with a small brush or even a foam roller, it’s not as bad as people make it sound.
- Not saying skip prep—definitely don’t do that—but sometimes “good enough” is actually good enough, especially if you’re on a tight budget.
- Anyone else feel like the “paint everything” advice is more for perfectionists? Or maybe folks with more patience than me...
I’m with you—painting cabinet insides is just not on my list unless I’m feeling especially ambitious (which is…rare). I’d rather have cool handles or a funky backsplash than stress over the back of a shelf nobody sees. If it looks clean and works, I’m happy.

Honestly, same here. I don’t get the point of fussing over stuff you never see. I’d rather put my energy (and budget) into things that actually show, like the counters or lighting. Curious—did you end up splurging on any one thing in your kitchen, or just keep it simple across the board?

That’s pretty much how most folks feel once they’re knee-deep in a remodel. I’ve seen people get talked into fancy drawer organizers or hidden outlets, but honestly, it’s the countertops and lighting that everyone notices. One client of mine splurged on a wild quartzite slab—cost more than their appliances, but man, it made the whole space pop. Sometimes it’s worth picking one thing to go all-in on, as long as it’s something you’ll actually appreciate every day. Hidden upgrades are nice, but if you never see ‘em… well, out of sight, out of mind.
Funny, I had a client who insisted on the fanciest pull-out spice racks and soft-close everything—spent a chunk on those hidden features. But after the dust settled, all they ever talked about was how the pendant lights made the kitchen feel “like a magazine.”
- Counters and lighting really do steal the show.
- That said, I’m still a sucker for a well-placed hidden outlet... even if nobody notices but me.
- Sometimes those “invisible” upgrades save your sanity long-term, but yeah, they’re not exactly conversation starters.
Guess it’s all about what you want to see (or not see) every day.
