grass vs flower beds: what's your pick?

Thinking about redoing my front yard soon and I'm kinda stuck between going for a neat, simple grass lawn or doing flower beds with mulch and stuff. Grass seems easier to maintain but flowers look nicer, you know? Which do you guys prefer and why?

Totally get this dilemma...have you considered mixing both? Maybe a neat grass area with flower beds around the edges - best of both worlds, and you won't spend every weekend mowing or weeding. Just a thought!
Mixing grass and flowers can look great, but have you thought about the edging? I've found that without proper edging, grass tends to creep into flower beds pretty aggressively. Last summer, I ended up spending way more time than I'd planned just keeping the grass from invading my perennials... Have you considered any specific edging materials or techniques to keep maintenance manageable?
