Scuffed drywall edges after storage
A drywall sheet that’s been moved around can get a nicked corner, but swelling or softness along an edge seems like a different concern. What signs help distinguish dry handling damage from moisture exposure that could leave the board unreliable?
For a hypothetical sheet, say the damage is limited to a couple of corners versus running along much of one edge. Is trimming back to sound material generally a reasonable option, or does any swelling or softness mean the sheet should be discarded? I’m also curious how you store leftover sheets so their edges stay in good shape.

If the swelling or softness runs along much of an edge, trimming only makes sense if you can cut back to firm, intact core and paper without leaving too little board to fasten securely or support the joint. If there isn’t a sound edge left for that, replacing the sheet is the better call.
