Funny, I’ve run into that lamp-switch issue more times than I care to admit—guests just love flipping switches, don’t they? I tried the smart bulbs route too for a rental property, mostly to avoid tearing into old wiring. The flexibility is great, but I did notice if you’ve got folks who aren’t used to smart setups, you’ll be resetting schedules a lot. Still beats rewiring, though... and way less mess.

Honestly, I lean toward smart switches for rentals, even if it means a bit of hassle upfront. Here’s why:

- Smart bulbs are great until someone flips the wall switch and kills power—then you’re stuck with “resetting schedules a lot.”
- With switches, guests can use them like normal, no learning curve.
- Less chance of bulbs getting swapped out or lost.

Yeah, rewiring’s a pain, but once it’s done, you’re not dealing with constant resets or explaining tech to every new tenant. Just my two cents.

Have you run into any issues with dimming compatibility on smart switches, especially with LED yard lights? I’ve seen some flicker or buzz, depending on the brand. Wondering if you’ve found a combo that just works without extra headaches.

I’ve definitely run into that flicker issue, especially with some of the cheaper LED yard lights paired with smart dimmers. Sometimes it’s just a hum, sometimes full-on strobe mode—drives me nuts. Lately I’ve had better luck using smart bulbs with regular (non-dimming) switches outside, but I’m still testing brands. Have you tried any of those “dimmable LED compatible” switches that claim to fix the problem? Curious if those actually help or just marketing fluff...

Yeah, I’ve given a couple of those “LED compatible” dimmers a shot. Mixed results, honestly. Some brands do cut down on the flicker, but it’s not a magic fix—especially if your LEDs are super cheap or older. I’ve noticed the wiring in the house can make a difference too. Sometimes it’s just easier to stick with smart bulbs and regular switches, like you mentioned. Less hassle, fewer headaches.
