Just saw this local news story about the city stepping up inspections and enforcement on bathroom remodels. Apparently, they've had a bunch of issues lately with people skipping permits or doing shoddy plumbing and electrical work. One homeowner got fined big-time because their contractor didn't pull the right permits, and now they're stuck with a half-finished bathroom and a hefty fine. Yikes.

I mean, I get it—safety first and all that—but it seems like they're really cracking down hard. My cousin redid his bathroom last year, and he said the inspection process was already a huge pain. Took forever, and the inspector was super picky about tiny details. Makes me wonder if this new crackdown is gonna make things even worse for regular folks just trying to update their homes.

Curious what you guys think—is the city justified in tightening up inspections, or is this just another way to squeeze homeowners for more cash?

I get the frustration, but honestly, as someone who's had to fix previous owners' DIY disasters, stricter inspections might save us money in the long run. Sure, inspectors can be picky, but catching small issues early prevents bigger headaches later. I'd rather deal with a bit of hassle upfront than pay double to fix hidden plumbing or electrical nightmares down the road...

Totally get where you're coming from. I've seen some pretty wild DIY setups—like showers without proper waterproofing or sketchy wiring hidden behind drywall. Stricter inspections can be a pain, but they also help homeowners catch stuff they wouldn't even know to look for. Plus, if you ever sell, having permits and inspections documented can save you from headaches during closing. It's annoying upfront, but probably worth it in the long haul...
