Finally got through a whole project on one charge—anyone else surprised by their batteries lately?

I’ve actually tried one of those cheap battery testers from the hardware store—honestly, it’s been more useful than I expected. I just toss it in my toolbox and check my batteries every month or so. It’s not super high-tech, but it gives me a heads-up before a battery totally craps out mid-project. Way better than guessing, especially when I’m halfway through something messy like drywall work. Not a miracle gadget, but definitely not gathering dust here.

I get where you’re coming from—those testers are handy for sure. But I’ve found they’re not always super accurate, especially with rechargeable batteries. Sometimes mine will say a battery’s still good, but then my drill just dies halfway through. For stuff like lighting or remotes, though, I totally agree... better than guessing. If it’s for tools I really rely on, I usually just rotate in fresh ones before I start anything big.

Yeah, those testers are a bit of a gamble with rechargeables. I’ve had a few “fully charged” batteries fizzle out halfway through hanging drywall—super fun. For anything critical, I just swap in a fresh one and keep the old as backup. Learned the hard way not to trust the tester alone... especially when you’re halfway up a ladder. Remotes and flashlights? Sure, tester’s good enough. Power tools? Not risking it.

- Been there, done that—except my “halfway up” was on a rickety step stool in a rental kitchen. Battery died mid-cabinet install. Tenants got a good laugh.
- I keep a “mystery box” of half-charged batteries for emergencies. Never fails: the one time I trust it, it’s dead as a doornail.
- Anyone else notice some brands just seem to last longer? Or is it just me getting lucky (for once)?

Some brands definitely hold up better—my DeWalt batteries outlast the Ryobi ones every time, at least for me. I’ve started labeling my “mystery box” batteries with dates, just to keep track. It’s wild how much difference a year makes in performance.
