Matching an addition roof to a low-slope roof

A roof that blends into an existing low-slope roof may look cleaner, but I’m unsure how the tie-in affects drainage and future maintenance. How much should the existing roof’s slope and water path shape the addition’s roof design?

What would you ask the designer or roofer about flashing and drainage at the connection, and how each option can be inspected or repaired later? I’d like to understand whether a distinct roofline can be a more practical choice without assuming it’s right for every house.

For the two roofline options, ask the designer to show how someone would actually reach the junction to inspect the flashing and drainage path, and what would have to come apart to repair it. If the blended tie-in is buried beneath finished roof areas while a distinct roofline leaves the connection accessible, that could make the latter easier and less costly to maintain. The drawings should make that difference clear before you compare the options.
