So, um, woke up today to my smart lights flickering like they're possessed and my thermostat deciding it's mid-July instead of November. I'm guessing it's probably my fault for ignoring updates and stuff, but now I'm kinda stuck in this weird sci-fi horror scenario. Anyone else had their smart home gear go a bit rogue? How'd you tame the beast?

Haha, your post gave me flashbacks to when my smart sprinkler system decided it was living in the tropics and watered my lawn nonstop for hours. Came home to a mini swamp and some very confused neighbors. Turns out, like you guessed, I'd been ignoring updates for months - lesson learned the soggy way.
Anyway, first thing I'd try is a full reboot of your router and smart hub (if you have one). Sometimes these devices just need a fresh start. After that, definitely check for firmware updates - boring, I know, but it usually does the trick. If things still act possessed, try resetting the devices individually and reconnecting them. It's a pain, but it worked wonders for my sprinkler fiasco.
