I've noticed something similar with my older brass locks—especially the ones on the north side of my place, where moisture tends to linger. Weird thing is, some of the cheaper coated locks seem to hold up better. Makes me wonder if maybe the matte finish has some kind of protective coating or sealant that's helping them resist corrosion? Or possibly it's just the type of metal underneath that's less prone to rusting...

Noticed the same thing with a couple of budget locks I put on a shed last year—still look brand new. Maybe it's less about price and more about whatever coating they're using...makes me curious what's actually in that finish.

I've noticed something similar with cabinet hardware finishes. Sometimes the budget-friendly options actually hold up surprisingly well, even in humid areas like bathrooms or kitchens. It might be less about cost and more about the specific coating or treatment process they're using. Could be worth checking if there's a particular finish or material listed on the packaging next time...might help pinpoint what's making them last longer.

Had a similar experience with some cheaper door handles I installed in a rental property. Honestly, I expected them to tarnish or chip pretty quickly, especially since tenants aren't always gentle...but nope, still looking good after two years. Makes me wonder if there's some new coating tech manufacturers are quietly using now. Might have to dig into that next time I'm at the hardware store.

That's pretty impressive for budget handles. I've had similar luck with some cheaper fixtures lately too—makes me think manufacturers are stepping up their game without making a big fuss about it. Maybe they're finally realizing we want affordable stuff that actually lasts? Anyway, good to hear yours held up so well. Gives me hope for my next DIY project...
