"Usually adjusting hinges or strike plates is enough to handle minor shifts..."

Totally agree with this. When we first moved into our old Victorian, I got a bit too enthusiastic sanding down a sticky door—worked great until winter rolled around and suddenly we had a built-in breeze...lesson learned the chilly way, haha.

Good point about sanding down doors—I learned that one the hard way too. A few years back, I thought I'd quickly fix a sticking bathroom door by shaving off a bit at the top. Worked beautifully until summer humidity hit and suddenly it wouldn't latch properly anymore. Ended up having to shim the hinges anyway...lesson learned: always try adjusting hinges or strike plates first before breaking out the sander, haha.

Haha, been there myself—humidity can really throw a wrench in things. Adjusting hinges first is definitely the way to go, but hey, sometimes sanding feels like the quicker fix...until it's not. Glad you got it sorted eventually!

Totally agree—humidity is no joke, especially around doors and locks. I've learned the hard way that sanding seems like a quick fix until winter hits and suddenly there's a gap letting cold air in. Adjusting hinges first is usually smarter, but sometimes even that's a temporary fix. One trick I've found helpful: applying a bit of silicone lubricant around the latch and strike plate. Keeps things moving smoothly year-round and helps prevent sticking...at least for a while.

Silicone spray definitely helps, but I've seen it attract dirt over time, making things gummy again. Graphite powder's been my go-to lately—less messy and seems to last longer. Curious if anyone's noticed keyless systems holding up better against humidity issues?
