WI-FI Dead Zones And Cable Chaos: Anyone Else Fighting With Their Setup?
I hear you on the Faraday cage situation—old plaster and lathe walls are basically Wi-Fi kryptonite. I’ve actually messed around with those recycled plastic cable covers. Picked some up at the big box store when I was running Cat6 through my 1950s ranch, because let’s face it, tripping over cables is a rite of passage I’m ready to skip.
Honestly? They’re not bad. A little softer than the rigid PVC stuff, so if you’re hoping for something bulletproof, they might disappoint. But they snap together pretty well, and the finish is cleaner than I expected. No weird plastic smell, either. I’d say if you’re trying to avoid adding more junk to the landfill, they’re a step in the right direction. Are they perfect? Nah. Still plastic at the end of the day, but at least it’s not virgin material.
One thing: don’t expect them to blend in like the old-school painted wood raceways. But if your main concern is wrangling chaos and not winning a design award, they do the trick. Plus, it feels a little less guilt-inducing when you’re staring at all those cable runs...
