is it just me or is choosing eco-friendly materials way too confusing?

I was trying to pick out some stuff for a DIY project yesterday, and man, the amount of conflicting info out there about what's actually eco-friendly is driving me nuts. Bamboo seems great at first glance, but then I read something about how it's processed and suddenly it's not so clear. Same with recycled plastics—sounds good, but then you hear about microplastics and all that jazz. Honestly, feels like you need a PhD just to make a decent choice these days. Anyone else feeling overwhelmed by this?
