Glass does look sharp and really opens things up, but I’ve got to push back a bit on the durability side.

I’ve seen a soccer ball hit a glass panel pretty hard and it didn’t crack, but I wonder how it holds up long term compared to aluminum.
In my experience, tempered glass is tough, but repeated knocks—especially from bikes or heavier toys—can eventually stress the panels or hardware. Aluminum might fade, but it’ll take a beating for years without much fuss. If you’re dealing with rowdy kids or big dogs, aluminum’s probably the safer bet in the long run.

Totally get where you’re coming from about aluminum being the “tough guy” in the yard. I do wonder, though, if anyone’s actually had a glass panel shatter from normal backyard chaos? Like, is it a real risk or just one of those things we all worry about but rarely happens? My neighbors have glass fencing and their golden retriever has put it through some serious stress-testing—no casualties yet, but I guess there’s always a first time…

On the eco side, does anyone know what’s easier to recycle at the end of its life? I’d assume aluminum, but then again, glass can be recycled too, right? Maybe it comes down to what’s less likely to end up in the landfill after a decade or two of pool parties and soccer balls. Would love to hear if anyone’s actually had to replace either one after years of use.

Love that image. I’ve seen glass stand up to wild backyard games, too—seems sturdier than folks think. And you’re right, both aluminum and glass are recyclable. Feels good knowing either way, you’re not just creating waste.

Gotta admit, I was nervous about glass at first—figured it’d be shattered the first time my kids launched a soccer ball at it. But we’ve had aluminum for years and it’s basically maintenance-free, which is a win for my wallet. Glass looks amazing, but those fingerprints and cleaning... yikes. Still, both beat the old chain link eyesore we inherited when we moved in.
