Couldn’t agree more about the maintenance side of glass. It looks amazing for about five minutes, then the smudges and water spots show up—especially if you’ve got kids splashing around. I used to be all about the sleek look, but after a few seasons of cleaning, I switched to aluminum. Powder-coated black blends in way better than I expected, and it’s basically worry-free. Sometimes function just wins out, especially when you want to actually enjoy your pool instead of cleaning it all the time.

I get where you’re coming from—glass is a pain to keep spotless, especially with kids and hard water. I do wonder, though, about the environmental impact of both materials over time. Did you find any info on recyclability or how each holds up long-term? Sometimes I worry aluminum might dent or scratch more easily, but maybe that’s just my bias showing...

Funny enough, I’ve seen more glass panels chip at the edges than aluminum fences get real damage. Aluminum’s tougher than folks think—unless you’re hitting it with a mower every week, it’ll hold up. But yeah, glass is a nightmare for water spots. Recyclability-wise, both are decent, but glass is heavier and trickier to haul away if you ever swap it out.

That’s the truth. I’ve had aluminum fencing around a few rentals and honestly, unless someone’s actively trying to wreck it, it just sits there and does its job. Glass looks fancy, sure, but every time I’ve seen it installed, someone ends up complaining about fingerprints or the dog nose prints... and don’t even get me started on the cleaning bills if you want it to look “showroom” all the time.

From a resale angle, glass can be a wow factor for buyers who want that luxury vibe. But for long-term headaches? Aluminum wins for me. It’s lighter, easier to fix if something does go wrong, and you don’t need to baby it. Plus, hauling away broken glass panels is a pain—had to do that once and swore never again.

If you’re after low maintenance and durability, aluminum’s hard to beat. Glass is great if you love cleaning or want your pool area to look like a resort... at least until the first scratch or chip shows up.

That’s been my experience too. My neighbor went all-in on glass panels and it looked amazing for about a month—then their kids started using the pool more and suddenly there were smudges everywhere. Meanwhile, my aluminum fence has survived a couple of wild backyard parties and even a runaway lawn chair during a storm. Curious if anyone’s tried mixing both? Like, glass for the “showpiece” side and aluminum for the rest? Wondering if that’s just asking for trouble or if it actually works.
