Honestly, unless you’re staring out at a mountain range or ocean, I’d take easy maintenance over shiny any day.

That’s a fair point. I’ve seen properties where glass fencing adds value—mostly high-end listings with killer views. But in most suburban settings, aluminum just makes more sense. Have you noticed how glass panels can get those hard water stains that never really come off? Even with regular cleaning, it’s tough to keep them looking new. Plus, from a cost perspective, aluminum is usually cheaper to install and repair. Curious if anyone’s factored in long-term resale value—does glass actually boost it enough to justify the hassle?

Yeah, those stains are the worst. I’ve had clients swear they’ll keep up with cleaning, but a year later it’s all streaks and spots. Aluminum might not be as flashy, but it’s way less headache in the long run. Glass looks great for resale if you’ve got a view, but otherwise? Not sure it’s worth the extra cost and upkeep.

I hear you on the upkeep—glass looks amazing at first, but those water spots are relentless. I’ve seen properties where the glass fencing actually turned buyers off because it looked so neglected. On the flip side, aluminum might not have that “wow” factor, but it’s practically maintenance-free. Has anyone tried those new coatings for glass panels? Supposedly they help with stains, but I’m a bit skeptical about how well they hold up over time...

I’ve looked into those coatings too, but honestly, I wonder if they’re just another thing to pay for upfront that doesn’t actually save much hassle down the line. My neighbor got some “self-cleaning” glass installed last summer and he still has to wipe it down every week. He said the water spots are a little less noticeable, but not gone. Not sure that’s worth the extra cost, at least for me.

Aluminum isn’t flashy, but I’ve had it around my pool for seven years now and haven’t touched it except for a quick rinse after pollen season. Doesn’t rust, doesn’t show fingerprints, and no one’s ever commented on it looking bad. Sure, it doesn’t have that “luxury” vibe, but at least it’s not another thing on my to-do list.

I keep hearing people say glass boosts property value, but like you said, if it looks neglected, isn’t that just as bad as having a cheaper fence? Maybe worse? Wondering if anyone’s actually seen a bump in resale price from going with glass, or if it’s more of a marketing thing.

What’s the cost difference been like for folks who’ve installed both? I know prices can swing a lot depending on where you live, but I’m curious if the maintenance savings with aluminum really add up over time compared to the upfront wow factor of glass.

- Had the same debate with my partner last year—glass or aluminum?
- We went glass for that “infinity pool” vibe. Looked amazing for about a week... until our dog’s nose art and the sprinkler overspray hit.
- Tried one of those miracle coatings. Honestly, it’s like putting chapstick on a window—smudges just get shinier.
- Aluminum might not be sexy, but I envy my neighbor who just hoses his fence down and calls it a day.
- As for property value, our realtor said buyers love glass “in theory,” but if it’s streaky or foggy, it backfires fast.
- Upfront cost was almost double for glass here, and maintenance is definitely higher... unless you count “Zen window cleaning” as a hobby.
