Where should pool-deck runoff go near the house?
Discussion options
A pool deck has to shed rain and splash away from the house, but the layout also needs to avoid sending that water toward the coping or leaving it where people walk. I’m not sure how contractors balance those goals when the house doors and pool edge are close to the deck.
How much does the right slope depend on the deck material and layout? Would a linear drain near the house threshold make sense in some designs, or is it usually better to direct runoff to another collection point? I’d be interested in what details you’d settle with the pool contractor before choosing the approach.

A linear drain at the house threshold can help, but it only solves the problem if there’s a dependable route for the water after it enters the drain. Before pricing that option, I’d confirm where it discharges and what happens if the outlet is blocked or overwhelmed; if it needs a pump, include access and ongoing maintenance in the cost. Is there a feasible gravity outlet at this site?
