what if you could only upgrade one wall of your house for warmth?

I've been thinking about this hypothetical scenario lately—say you had limited resources and could only afford to insulate one exterior wall of your home. Which wall would you pick? North-facing for the cold winds, or maybe the one closest to your bedroom for comfort? I'm kinda torn because my bedroom wall faces east and gets chilly, but the living room wall on the north side feels drafty as heck. Curious how others would approach this.

I totally get the struggle you're describing—I faced something similar a few years back in my old place. My north-facing living room wall was freezing all winter, but my bedroom was on the east side and waking up chilly was miserable. Ended up insulating the north wall first because that's where we spent most of our time during the day. Honestly, it made a noticeable difference throughout the house, not just that room. Either way, trust your gut—you know your home best and can't really go wrong here.

Interesting perspective, and I totally see why you'd prioritize the north wall. But honestly, if I had to pick just one wall, I'd probably go for the bedroom wall first. Years ago, I lived in a place where the bedroom was always freezing, and waking up cold every morning was just brutal... felt like it set the tone for the whole day. Once I insulated that room, mornings became way more pleasant, and weirdly enough, it seemed easier to handle the chill elsewhere. Guess it depends on your daily routine and what bugs you most.

Totally get where you're coming from with the bedroom wall. Waking up freezing is no joke... makes it so much harder to drag yourself out of bed. I tackled my living room first because that's where I spend most evenings, but honestly, your point about mornings setting the tone for the day hits home. Guess it really boils down to personal routines and what bugs you most about the cold. Glad insulating your bedroom made such a difference—small changes can really boost quality of life.

Yeah, bedroom insulation made a noticeable difference for me too, but now I'm wondering—would insulating just one wall actually shift cold spots elsewhere? Like, could it create new drafts or condensation issues on the other walls...?
