I hear you on the weird shadows—those backup bulbs are like mood lighting for a haunted house, not a workspace. I tried rigging up a headlamp once, thinking I’d look all professional, but it just highlighted every speck of dust in my drywall mud and made me dizzy. Honestly, I’ve started stashing those cheap clamp lights with LED bulbs in random drawers. Not fancy, but at least I can point them where I need without juggling my phone between my teeth. Solar lantern’s a clever move though... might have to steal that idea next time the power ghosts me mid-project.

- Gotta say, I’m not totally sold on the clamp lights. I tried those last week when my breaker tripped mid-painting, and the shadows still threw me off. Maybe it’s just my old house with weird corners, but I kept moving the light and still couldn’t see what I was doing half the time.

- Headlamps are hit or miss for me too. They’re great for plumbing under sinks, but when I’m sanding or mudding, it’s like every flaw is suddenly in 4K. Plus, I always forget I’m wearing it and blind myself in the mirror.

- One thing that’s actually worked better than expected: those battery-powered puck lights you stick under cabinets. Not super bright, but if you slap a few around the room, it evens out the shadows way more than a single clamp light. Bonus—they’re cheap and you can move them wherever.

- Solar lanterns sound cool, but I’d probably forget to charge them. I keep a couple of rechargeable work lights in the toolbox instead. They’re not fancy, but they last a few hours and have magnets so you can stick them anywhere metal.

- Honestly, sometimes I just call it for the night if the lighting’s too bad. Tried pushing through once and ended up sanding a patch twice because I missed a spot in the dark... lesson learned.

Not saying clamp lights don’t work—just think there might be easier options if you don’t want to chase shadows all night.
