Okay, confession time...I was chatting with my neighbor yesterday, and he casually mentioned how he checks his furnace filters every single month. Every month! I mean, I know you're supposed to do it regularly, but honestly, I'm lucky if I remember every three or four months. Usually it's when the AC starts sounding like it's about to take off into orbit or the heater smells a little funny when it kicks on for the first time in fall.
It got me thinkingβam I just lazy or is he just super diligent? I mean, I do basic stuff like clearing leaves and debris from around the outdoor unit and occasionally vacuuming out vents. But monthly filter checks? Nah, that's not happening in my house. Maybe twice a year if I'm feeling ambitious.
So now I'm curious about everyone else here. How often do you actually check or clean your heating and cooling systems at home? Are you a monthly-checker like my neighbor (who clearly has his life together way more than me), or are you more of a "wait until something weird happens" type like yours truly?
Quick poll:
- Monthly (I'm basically HVAC royalty)
- Every few months (when I remember)
- Twice a year (seasonal routine)
- Only when something seems off (guilty as charged)
- Wait...I'm supposed to check that stuff?
Feel free to share your stories tooβlike that one time you found something weird stuck in your vents or realized your filter was basically a solid brick of dust. Can't be just me who's had those moments...
