I get why smart bulbs might seem finicky, but honestly, they've been pretty solid for me - even in an old kitchen. I put some vintage-style smart bulbs in my overhead fixtures, and they're surprisingly responsive via voice command. No messy hands touching switches at all. Granted, under-cabinet LEDs are great, but don't totally write off smart bulbs yet...they've come a long way in reliability and ease of use, even in historic homes like mine.
