I do wonder, though—do you ever find there’s a point where the prep starts to feel like overkill?

Honestly, I get that feeling sometimes, especially with rooms that don’t see much action. But every time I’ve skipped a step, I’ve regretted it later. There’s something satisfying about knowing the finish will last, even if it takes a bit longer. Those “invisible” steps really do make all the difference, especially in older homes where every imperfection seems to show. Don’t feel guilty about taking your time—it’s worth it in the long run.

I get what you mean about “those invisible steps,” but honestly, sometimes I just want to slap some paint on and call it a day. Especially in closets or laundry rooms—who’s inspecting those corners? Last time I spent hours sanding and priming, my cat was the only one who noticed (and he still scratched the wall). Not every room needs the royal treatment, right?

I hear you on the “not every room needs the royal treatment” thing, especially for spaces like closets. Still, I’ve found that even in those hidden spots, skipping steps sometimes comes back to haunt me. Like, I once rushed through a pantry thinking, “Who cares?”—but now the paint’s peeling and it bugs me every time I grab cereal. Guess it’s a balance… sometimes quick is fine, but other times those invisible steps really do save headaches down the line.

I get your point about not going all out in every room, but honestly, I’ve regretted cutting corners more than once. Did a quick coat in the laundry room, skipped primer, and now it’s all streaky and chipped. Still, I get wanting to just get it done, especially for low-traffic spots. Maybe it’s about picking your battles? For me, if it’s somewhere I’ll see daily, I force myself to do the prep—even if it feels like overkill at the time.

Totally get that—skipping steps always seems faster until you’re staring at peeling paint a month later. But do you ever wonder if there’s an eco-friendly shortcut? Like, is there a low-VOC primer that actually works in one coat, or am I just dreaming? Sometimes I feel like the “right” way is always the most work...
