Finally got my outdoor space looking cozy and inviting

I totally hear you on the gravel issue. We had a gravel patio area for a while, and between my dog kicking stones everywhere and tracking them into the house, it got old fast. Ended up swapping it out last summer for composite decking tiles - similar idea to your reclaimed wood. Way easier upkeep, and no more surprise stones underfoot indoors. I've been wondering about this too. A neighbor of mine put in composite decking about five years ago, and at first it looked fantastic - super clean lines, modern look - but after a couple summers, it definitely started showing its age. They said it was mostly due to the intense afternoon sun exposure on their deck, but it made me hesitate about going composite for my own yard.

On the other hand, another friend recently installed a newer brand of composite tiles (can't remember exactly which one, unfortunately), and theirs still looks brand new after two summers. So maybe it really is just a matter of newer materials being better designed to resist fading?

I'm also curious about how slippery composite decking gets when it's wet. Does anyone have experience with that? My patio area is partly shaded, so after rain, moisture tends to linger. I'd hate to swap out my current setup only to find myself slipping around every time it rains. I've heard mixed things - some say it's no worse than wood or brick, others claim it's significantly slipperier.
