building houses to survive wildfires - anyone tried this?

I've been thinking a lot lately about how scary wildfire seasons have gotten, especially after seeing some of the recent news. Got me wondering if there's ways people actually build their homes differently in areas prone to fires. Like, are there special materials or design tricks that make a house less likely to catch fire or at least slow it down? Would love to hear if anyone's tried stuff like this or knows someone who has. Is it worth the extra hassle and cost, you think?
