I’ve tried voice memos too, but I always forget to listen back later... For me, a digital notes app like Notion has been a game changer—syncs across devices, so nothing gets lost under a pile of samples or dust. Still, nothing beats scribbling on the plan with a good pen when inspiration hits.

I totally get the love for scribbling on plans—there’s something about pen on paper that just feels right when you’re knee-deep in renovation chaos. But honestly, I’ve lost way too many brilliant ideas to coffee stains and random scraps. Notion’s great, but I still end up with a hybrid system: digital for the big stuff, sticky notes for those “aha!” moments. It’s messy, but hey, so is demo day...

I hear you on the hybrid system—my kitchen table’s a graveyard of half-filled notebooks and sticky notes that somehow multiply overnight. I keep telling myself I’ll scan everything into my laptop, but honestly, I kinda like flipping through the old scribbles, even if I can’t always find what I need. I totally get the appeal of flipping through old notes—there’s something about seeing your own messy handwriting that makes it feel more real. I tried a big corkboard once, thinking it’d help, but honestly, it just turned into a collage of receipts and paint swatches. Maybe it works better for folks who are more visual? Have you ever tried using one of those rolling carts with drawers? I found it handy for keeping samples and paperwork together, but then again, it’s another thing to keep organized...

- Been there. Corkboards look organized for about a week, then they’re just chaos with thumbtacks.
- Rolling carts are great in theory, but I always end up shoving stuff in the drawers and forgetting what’s where.
- What’s actually worked for me: one big binder with plastic sleeves. Not pretty, but at least I can flip through everything fast.
- Sticky notes still multiply, though... haven’t cracked that code yet.
