I’m comparing reclaimed-wood and bamboo cabinetry for a kitchen remodel, but I’m unsure which is the more practical lower-impact choice.

The decision seems to depend on more than the material itself: full cabinet boxes versus just doors or replacement fronts, the construction method, and the finish. The sink and dishwasher area will see regular moisture, so resistance to swelling, edge damage, and finish failure matters. I’m also trying to understand which option is easier to repair rather than replace if a door or panel gets damaged.

Formaldehyde emissions are another concern, especially if either material uses composite cores, adhesives, or added substrate layers. For those who’ve researched or installed them, how do reclaimed wood and bamboo compare in real kitchen service life, maintenance, moisture tolerance, and repairability?
