I’m with you on the headlamps - mine always ends up sliding down my forehead or getting tangled in my hair. Those puck lights are actually pretty handy for quick fixes, and I like that you can stick them anywhere without worrying about cords. As for extension cords from a neighbor’s generator, I’ve done it once during a big storm... felt a little weird knocking on their door, but they were cool about it. Totally get that - somehow crackers and peanut butter turn gourmet when you’re sitting in the dark. Headlamps never stay put for me either, but I started looping a bandana under mine and it helps a bit. Funny how a power outage can turn a basic snack into a five-star meal - must be something about the atmosphere. I hear you on the headlamps, though. Puck lights are decent in a pinch, but I’ve found most of them are built cheap and chew through batteries way too fast. If you’re mid-project and need real light, I’d argue it’s worth investing in a rechargeable work light. The magnetic ones can stick to anything metal - super handy when you’re crawling around in a half-finished basement or attic. Not as cozy as flashlight snacks, but at least you can see what you’re doing.

Still, nothing beats that weird sense of camaraderie when everyone’s working by whatever light they can find. Makes for good stories later, even if it’s a pain in the moment.

Not gonna argue with that - somehow, a granola bar feels like a gourmet treat when you’re eating it in the dark, staring at your half-finished drywall. Kudos for being prepared, though. Having backup lights charged up is one of those things you never regret - until you forget and end up cursing in the dark.
