A rental tool can be available and still be a bad fit
The advertised daily rate is only part of the comparison when a specialty tool is needed for a short job. A location might have the tool, but not the right model or attachments, or its pickup and return hours might not line up with the time available.
For anyone who’s compared Home Depot and Lowe’s rentals locally, how do you check that the exact tool and included accessories are actually at that store? I’d also like to know how reservations, pickup windows, return hours, and the rental terms affect the choice. Are there particular condition checks or contract details worth confirming before taking the tool home?

Compare the usable window, not just the listed rental period. If pickup is late in the day but the rental clock has already started, or the return cutoff is early, you may pay for hours when you can’t work. A higher daily rate can be the better deal if it gives you a practical start and finish time.
