RE: Regretting my fridge placement - anyone else have workflow issues?
Totally get what you mean about not settling for a bad layout. I actually moved my fridge to a weird little nook off the kitchen - everyone thought I was nuts, but it freed up so much space. The “work around it” advice j...
RE: How often do you actually need to clean your gutters?
I hear you on the pine needle sludge - my gutters looked like a compost bin last fall. I tried those foam inserts thinking they’d be the magic fix, but honestly, they just turned into a soggy mess and made things worse. ...
RE: Picking the right windows for your house vibe
I totally get wanting a little quirk, but I’ve found it’s a fine line between “charming” and “why is that there?” When we started our reno, I was obsessed with the idea of all different window shapes - thought it’d look ...
RE: How Long Does It Really Take To Insulate A House?
Honestly, I get the appeal of saving cash, but I’m not convinced DIY is always the best route, especially with old houses. I tried tackling my attic last fall - thought I’d be done in a weekend, but nothing went as plann...
RE: Turning attics and garages into bedrooms: is it worth the hassle?
I get the appeal of those solar shades, but honestly, I went a different route when I tackled my attic. Instead of investing in techy shades (and dealing with remotes that have a mind of their own), I focused on beefing ...
RE: Making trim look pro without hiring out
I get the “character” thing, but sometimes I wish my 1920s place would show a little less personality in the trim department. I’ve tried the tape trick for caulk lines too - definitely cleaner, but I always end up peelin...
RE: finally got our storm shelter checked out and passed with flying colors
Honestly, I love this mindset. There’s something kind of refreshing about sticking with what works instead of getting caught up in all the “must-have” upgrades. I’ve been knee-deep in my first big reno and it’s so easy t...
RE: Convection vs. Conventional Ovens: Which One Actually Makes a Difference?
Convection ovens are a total game-changer if you’re the kind of person who wants every tray to come out looking like a magazine photo, but I’ll admit, they’re not always as “set it and forget it” as people make them soun...
RE: how much did your bathroom remodel run you (roughly)?
I totally get where you’re coming from about old cabinetry. When I started my bathroom remodel, I was convinced everything had to be gutted and replaced - new vanity, new shelves, the works. But once I started pricing ou...
RE: If You Had to Redo Your Kitchen Lights, What Would You Pick?
Interesting perspective on reusing wiring - I hadn't really thought about sleeving or encapsulating as an option before. When we did our kitchen lighting last year, I was dead set on tearing everything out and starting f...
RE: Natural cleaners vs store-bought stuff for appliances
I feel you on the vinegar kettle thing 😂. I tried lemon juice once thinking it'd be fresher than vinegar... ended up smelling like burnt lemonade for days. Lesson learned. Totally agree about eucalyptus oil thoug...
RE: how often do you actually check your deck for safety?
I'm pretty new to the renovation game, but yeah, wood rot is sneaky. When we bought our place last year, the deck looked great - until my foot almost went through a board. Lesson learned: appearances mean nothing! Now I ...
RE: Little-Known Hacks for Keeping Your Patio Looking Fresh
I've gotta admit, I actually liked polymeric sand at first - until I saw it in action on my own patio. It felt like putting plastic surgery on something charmingly rustic, lol. Lately, I've been experimenting with crushe...
